Ensuring Fairness and Accuracy: Multistage Adaptive Testing on the Digital SAT

 

The Digital SAT introduces an innovative approach to testing known as multistage adaptive testing (MST). In this blog, we'll take a closer look at how MST works on the Digital SAT and how it ensures fairness and accuracy in assessing students' skills and knowledge.

 

Multistage adaptive testing is a dynamic testing method that tailors the difficulty of questions based on the student's performance in earlier stages. This means that as you progress through the test, the questions you encounter will adapt to your skill level, providing a more accurate representation of your abilities.

 

In each assessment within the SAT Suite, including the SAT, students are given a set amount of time to complete each section. For example, the Reading and Writing section consists of two equally timed modules, each lasting 32 minutes. After a 10-minute break, students move on to the Math section, which also consists of two modules, each lasting 35 minutes. This structured approach ensures that students have sufficient time to engage with the material while maintaining a fair testing environment.
